about the study
This is a University at Buffalo study to learn more about queer youth’s social experiences. We want to know how you cope with stress, as well as who and what helps you get through the difficult times.
We are inviting LGBTQ+ youth to share their experiences so that parents, schools and others can learn how to best support queer youth.
If eligible, you will have the opportunity to earn e-gift cards by answering confidential, online surveys.
Who is running it?
Drs. Amy Hequembourg and Jennifer Livingston and the TBH team are running this study. The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
study info
why are we doing this study?
We want all queer teens to live their best lives. To do so, we need to know what challenges you face and how you manage those challenges to best understand ways to help all LGBTQ+ youth.
Who can participate?
You must:
be between 15-17 years old
consider yourself queer or LGBTQ+ (you don’t have to be out though!)
live in New York State
What will participants do?
You will answer a bunch of surveys. You will then receive reminders to complete more surveys over the next 1 ½ years. You will get e-gift cards for completing each of these surveys.
What kind of things will you talk about?
We want to hear about relationships with your family and friends, your experiences at school, and things that stress you out and how you deal with them.
Is it confidential?
Your participation is confidential and you don’t need your parents’ permission to participate! All of the surveys are sent to your email so you can answer them in a private setting at your own pace.
How many people will you need?
500 queer teens from across New York State. You can earn additional e-gift cards by helping us reach that goal by referring your LGBTQ+ friends to the study.
